Ph.D. (University of the Witwatersrand) Thesis entitled: Litter accumulation in Pinus patula plantations and the role of ectomycorrhizal fungi in a forest ecosystem.

Dr Dames has an interest in a board range of mycorrhizal aspects including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and ectomycorrhizal fungi. The Mycorrhizal Research Group is based at Rhodes University in Grahamstown.

Prof. Straker continues to be involved in mycorrhizal research, particularly the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and their role in heavy metal tolerance. He conducts his research at the University of the Witwatersrand in Braamfontein.

Mrs Bouwman continues to be involved in arbuscular mycorrhizal research with particular reference to the isolation and maintenance of the Mycoroot culture collection, mining rehabilitation and use of inoculants in emerging agriculture and related field.
